DIY Pineapple Vase
Oh pineapples. When did this spiky tropical fruit become so trendy? Somehow, like the avocado and the donut, the pineapple has become one of the foods du jour and has made it's way into the mainstream to become a staple in fashion and décor. I for one an not complaining, I love me some pineapple and this DIY is a seriously simple way to incorporate this tropical trend into your home or next party.
There's two ways to do this DIY, the simple way or the REALLY simple way. The easiest way is if you have one of these snazzy contraptions. Just core away and you're prepped for the next step. However, if you (like me) don't have a pineapple corer (where's the fun in that?!), don't fret. Follow these steps to make your own tropical DIY pineapple vase!
Step 1. Chop off the top of the pineapple then (carefully) using your knife, cut a circle around the pineapple going the full depth down into the pineapple, just be careful not to cut through the bottom of the pineapple so all the juices don't come out the bottom. Then start making diagonal slices into the circle you've cored to get chunks of pineapple out of the fruit. This part is a little messy but totally worth it. Just cut slowly and safely and it won't take you too long.
Step 2. Take a short glass or vase (that will fit in the hole you've cut) and place inside the pineapple. Since pineapple is sugary and acidic, I'd imagine it's not going to be great for the life of your flowers. By placing a glass inside the pineapple, your flowers wills stay fresh.
Step 3. Cut and place your flowers in the vase and you're done! Easy peasy or what?!
Obviously this vase won't last as long as your flowers. It would be great for a dinner party or get together if you want to wow your guests but for the sake of freshness, I'd make these vases the same day you want to use them and keep in the fridge until you're ready to set them out.
Happy DIY-ing!
