Pumpkin Cookie Pops
I'll be the first to admit that Halloween is not my favorite holiday. I gave up the going out and partying on Halloween a while back in favour of staying in with my boys and cuddling on the sofa watching horror movies. That being said, a while back I was thinking about Halloween posts and inspiration struck for Oreo Cookie Pops decorated like pumpkins. This is a simple treat that would be sure to impress guests if you were entertaining on Halloween or you know, to eat all by yourself sitting at home in your pj's watching horror movies...no one's here to judge! ;)
So, what do you need:
Cake pop sticks
Double stuffed oreos (regular are fine too but double stuffed is better for the cake pop sticks)
Melting chocolate + food coloring (or orange melting chocolate if you can find it, the only stuff I could find was orange flavored which is SO not my jam so white choc + food coloring it was!)
Decorative icing - I used black, green and orange gel icing
*You should be able to find these ingredients at bulk barn or the bulk section of your grocery store
So, what do you do?
Begin by putting the oreos in the microwave for 10-15 seconds to soften the center icing then insert the cake pop stick and place in the fridge to cool
Melt the chocolate with a double broiler (or glass dish over boiling pot of water)
Once the chocolate is smooth (add Crisco or vegetable oil while melting if it's not smooth enough) use a spoon and cover the oreos in the orange chocolate. Warning: this gets a little messy
Set the cookies on a plate and place in the fridge to cool. Once the chocolate has hardened you can start to decorate away!
