A Lesson In Ayurvedic Beauty
Did you know that it takes as little as 26 seconds for chemicals on your skin to be absorbed into your bloodstream? Yikes! That's a scary thought when you think of how many topical chemicals we willingly apply to our own skin daily. It's for this exact reason I've spent the last year trying to go back to nature when it comes to my beauty and home cleaning and care routines.
When I came upon Sahajan, I knew I'd found something good. I love when companies are simple, honest and transparent and Sahajan is just that.
"To create the Sahajan line of products, our team in Canada worked with leading Ayurvedic doctors in Kerala. Through extensive research and testing we were able to develop effective formulations, using traditional remedies to treat modern stresses on skin and hair. Complex practices of Ayurveda were distilled into their essential elements, to better work in a modern context. This innovative blend of science and tradition is the core of Sahajan’s unique approach to holistic beauty."
I just love when you look at a list of ingredients and can actually read and understand the words! Whether it be for your food, skincare, cleaning products or makeup, I strongly believe that we shouldn't need to be chemists to understand the ingredients in the products we use.
Over the past few weeks I've been using and loving the facial products from Sahajan. After cleansing my face in the evening I apply a few drops of the protective face serum. A little goes a long way with this stuff and it absorbs into your skin beautifully leaving your face feeling so smooth and fresh.
Next up I use the Restorative Eye Cream to help battle dark circles and brighten up my skin and soothe the area around my eyes after a long day. This is another product that you only need a little amount of to see the full results. You can also use this product in the morning before applying your moisturiser and then makeup to brighten your eyes for the day ahead.
Lastly, I finish off my evening skincare routine by using the luxurious Nourish Face Cream. This rich cream is ultra moisturising but very light and doesn't leave your skin feeling heavy or oily at all. The products have the most subtle scents that are not at all overwhelming and they feel incredibly smooth and soothing once applied.
I can't say enough good things about the Sahajan line. Not only has my skin felt so clear and fresh since using these products but I love the story behind the brand as well. Founder Lisa Mattam started Sahajan after she walked in on her two year old slathered in her face cream. While her first reaction was one of "oh that's so cute", it quickly turned to worry as she feared what the dangerous chemicals in her creams could be doing to her daughter. This realisation led her to go back to her roots of natural and plant based beauty based on the Ayurvedic principles she grew up with. I don't know about you but a beauty system based on tried and true results of over 5000 years sounds good enough to me!
