Indoor Picnic Party!
Spring is one of my favourite seasons, the long months of winter are finally over, the snow starts to melt, flowers bloom and the countdown for summer commences. However, with that being said, Spring can also be a tough time to navigate - it’s warm one day, snowing the next, rainy one week and slushy the following - it can be a tough time to figure out what to wear, what to do and it’s not the most reliable time to make any outdoor plans.
With the upcoming warmer weather on my mind I wanted to throw a fun spring inspired party without having to worry about whether or not it would be snowing outside (spoiler alert - it did snow this day, right after being 15 degrees outside the day before!). Using fresh spring decor and yummy picnic inspired foods I had a few of my favourite ladies over for a “Pre-Spring Indoor Picnic” party with some of my new spring additions from the President’s Choice Insiders Collection.
I was inspired by the tropical green dishes and placemats from the President’s Choice Insiders Collection to make a spring-y sangria and fresh beet slaw. In the spirit of keeping things oh so simple, I also wanted to serve my latest lunch obsession - the President’s Choice Chorizo Mac & Cheese (seriously you guys, this is SO delicious). To finish things off, we ended with the President’s Choice Matcha Green Tea Cheesecake. Warning: this cheesecake is crazy addictive - don’t say I didn’t warn you! ;)
Kristina, Justine and I had so much fun sipping on sangria, eating tasty foods and chatting the afternoon away. I want to say a huge thank you to Karly Ford for coming over to snap these amazing photos and of course, spend some quality girl time. I’ll be sharing my sangria recipe and how I jazzed up the President’s Choice Beet Slaw on the blog next week but until then, take a look at some of the great details from our little get together and here are a few of my tips for hosting your own casual spring get together
Keep It Casual
Sometimes casual entertaining truly is the best. It keeps the mood comfortable and low key and allows your guests to feel right at home. I used a cute indoor/outdoor tray to hold our dishes and cutlery so that everyone could help themselves. Our living room has tons of seating but sometimes the floor is the best so I used lots of cushions and faux fur throws to keep the vibe cozy and comfy.
Keep It Simple
Just because you’re entertaining doesn’t mean you need to spend hours and hours cooking, stressing and preparing. I am all for keeping things simple wherever you can to save yourself time and stress. The President’s Choice Beet Slaw was the perfect base for a simple salad I threw together (recipe coming soon) and the Chorizo Mac & Cheese was the simplest and tastiest side dish to heat and serve. Lastly, I finished off with dessert which I didn’t even have to bake! By choosing simple foods that were easy to prepare, it made for a gathering where I could actually relax and enjoy rather than spending all the time in the kitchen.
Go Green
For a spring inspired soiree, bring in lots of greenery to really get into to the theme and add some simple decor. A few fresh blooms and cacti added to the green dishes, napkins and placemats that had me wishing away the snow and wanting to get outdoors on the patio! Plus, I added in a few pineapple touches to finish off the look. I adore this pineapple canister - there are so many uses for this fun piece!
So there you have it, a few simple ideas for hosting your own spring inspired get together. Even if the weather is unreliable, you can still bring spring indoors and have a great time!
