GTL: Curb Appeal
Once the snow melts and the dust and grime left from a VERY long winter is cleared away, the time to take a look at our curb appeal calls and we can begin to decorate for the few short months of summer ahead. Living in a condo I have the joys of not having to shovel or clear up my yard from spending 6 months covered in snow but that means I also don't get to do much in terms of sprucing up my front door and non existent yard.
I have always wanted to have a house with a bright or funky front door and one day I'll be sure to make that happen but for now, I'll just daydream of ways to spruce up my "one-day" front entry, and maybe provide a bit of guidance for those of you who are looking to add a bit of style to your home this year!
A great way to add a punch to your exterior style at a small cost is to paint the front door -neighbourhood architectural controls permitting, of course. When selecting a paint color, its's a good idea to keep in mind your other exterior finishes such as brick or stone work, your siding, or other architectural finishes such as shutters or trim. What's great about picking colors for your exterior is you can be a bit more bold and adventurous. Sunlight can drastically change the look of a color, so often you can go bolder than you might think. Tip: paint a few samples and look at them throughout the day to see what color looks best. Lastly, pick a color that reflects your style and what statement you want your exterior to make. Keep in mind whether you'll go with a flat or gloss finish, and if you want to update your hardware at the same time. Think of painting the door like adding accessories to an outfit, this is where you get to add character to your home- so make sure it expresses your individuality!
