Lavender Earl Grey Tea Misto
As a part of my goal to spend less on buying coffee and tea drinks this year (ahem - $5 tea lattes), I wanted to master a few fancy drinks at home that felt like drinks I would order out. I love earl grey tea- growing up my dad always drank Earl Grey tea and when I was young he'd sometimes give me a small cup on the weekends (I felt so grown up! lol), so I wanted to try to use Earl Grey tea to make one of my favourite drinks to order out- an early grey tea miso.
A misto is half tea (or coffee) and half steamed milk. At Starbucks I'll usually order mine with sugar free vanilla syrup but knowing that their syrups are not good for you at all- for my at home version I swapped out the vanilla syrup for honey to add a bit of sweetness. As well, Lavender and Earl Grey flavours really compliment one another so I thought I'd use some of my culinary lavender to fancy the drink up a bit.
To make this misto for yourself, here's what you'll do….
I start by pouring a bit of honey into my tea cup (start with a teaspoon - you can always adjust and add more if you need later). As I boil water for the tea I take my Epicure Earl Grey tea (my favourite!) and add 5-8 buds of culinary lavender in the tea satchel. Fill the cup halfway with boiling water and let the tea steep for a few minutes. As the tea steeps I warm up a bit of milk then use my Epicure milk frother to create the most perfect frothy milk. Remove the tea bag, top up the cup with the steamed milk and you're done! If you really love the flavour of lavender, sprinkle a few buds on the top if you're feeling fancy. Then sit, sip and enjoy!
