Small Space Storage
Today I want to share a space that's been left neglected and well, empty, pretty much since we moved into our home... our back entryway. Now, a back entrance may not be the most exciting space to have to decorate or style however, it is an area that is usually in need of some extra storage so that's what we started with when we decided we needed to 'finish' this space in our own home. Our back entryway is small. Like, very small. However, we managed to make our very small front entryway both beautiful and functional so, I knew that we could do the same on the other side of our house too.
Much like with our front entrance, in our back, I wanted to find a piece that was modern and smaller scale, with clean lines and a bit of storage so naturally, I immediately thought of my favourite line from The Brick - The North Avenue Collection.
I used this storage bench in the entryway of my Modern Meets Country space and in remembering how great that piece was, I decided to order the same for my home. In our back entry way we have a small closet that does provide storage however like most of us can relate (I'm assuming!), we can never get enough storage in our house.
What I love about the North Avenue Storage Bench is:
1) It was the PEFECT size for this little space of ours. We can open and access our closet doors and come and go through our back door with this bench placed directly in between the two. It fits juuuust right.
2) It has open and closed storage. This bench has an open rack on the bottom of the bench that is perfect for shoes. James and I both have a lot of shoes so our front closet does not provide enough storage for them all. Here, we can place 4-5 extra pairs of shoes along the bottom rack which is a great help for us and our storage woes. Also, the bench has great closed storage which is perfect for extra hats, scarves, purses and even Herman's food since his little 'food station' is near the back door. Perfect!!
3) It's modern, simple and works perfectly with our decor. Being a designer of course the look is almost as important as the function of the pieces we bring into our home. We already have lots of the North Avenue Collection pieces in our home (front entry, my office) so this piece from the collection is a perfect addition to our home! I also love that if I want to style the bench and add a plant or cushion I can make it look beautiful but also if we need the piece to be less cluttered and more functional, we can just remove those items to allow for room to sit and easier access to the storage.
Because it's a very small nook we're working with here I wanted to keep the rest of the space simple and minimal so we hung a few hooks and kept the look minimalist and I love how it turned out! What do you think?
