Make an Entrance

Despite the snow we still have on the ground here in Edmonton it IS now officially spring so now is usually the time that some outdoor home improvement ideas start popping up. Plans to enhance your curb appeal through landscaping, exterior painting or refinishing, building a new fence or deck or similar projects are usually items we try to check off our lists in the warmer months. One of the best ways to up the ante when it comes to your home's curb appeal is through your entrances. Nothing says 'welcome home' quite like a beautiful front entry so for a little inspiration, take a look at some of these entrances I admire.

Front Entry

The front entry is the first impression people have of your home so why not take that opportunity to make it a beautiful one! If your entry is looking tired and worn there are countless options for making a beautiful statement. A dark and dramatic black door can modernize your home.  An elegant white door contrasted with brick is classic and sophisticated.  Going bold with a bright door colour might not be for the faint of heart but will make your house stand out for all the right reasons. Or, a minimal modern door is an understated way to make a strong design statement. These are just a few ideas. Whatever style you go for, give it your all and create a beautiful entry with your door and hardware choice, entry accessories, flowers and more.

Back/Patio Door

While the back or patio doors of your home might get a little less attention than the front entry they are still an element that should not be ignored. Back entry ways get as much if not more use than the front entry of your home. They usually get more wear and abuse with kids running in and out to play in the garden, guests coming in an out during backyard entertaining, pets going outdoors possibly through a pet flap, or daily entrance if you park in a back garage or taking out the trash daily. A back entry might need to be a little more durable but that doesn't mean it can't be beautiful as well. There are lots of options for door styles and hardware to choose from in addition, there's usually more room to play with for accessorizing with plants and flowers, design features and furniture.

Garage

Lastly let's talk about an entrance that you might not normally think about when it comes to exterior home improvements; the garage. Just because the garage is the parking spot for your vehicle doesn't mean that it's an area of your home that should be ignored. Don't let your garage become a dark and uninviting part of your home. A fresh coat of paint, updating your garage door or automatic gates, light fixture upgrades and some greenery or flowers can go a long way to create an inviting garage entry. Especially if you have an attached garage, it's a feature of your home that is quite prominent so why not put a little effort into making it beautiful and inviting also?
