Scandinavian Office Refresh with Canadian Tire
Well today’s the day! I’m excited to show you my Scandinavian meets feminine modern office refresh with Canadian Tire! You might remember that a few weeks ago I announced that I’d be tackling my home office, making a few more functional changes that have dramatically changed how I’m able to use this space.
While there was technically nothing wrong about how my office was before, I was starting to find that it would feel a bit cluttered and became more of a storage room than a functional office space. With help from Canadian Tire I’ve brought in a new desk that’s a better scale for the room, more functional closed storage, stylish task lighting and a new overhead light too! Not to mention a few fun accessories as well.
And, I can’t forget that YOU helped me pick some of these pieces too! Probably my favourite part of this process was the voting on Instagram to help me choose my task and overhead lighting. Let’s start there, shall we?……
The first vote was to help me decide between the CANVAS Grace Wooden Table Lamp and the CANVAS Grace 2 Light Wooden Floor Lamp. I love both of these lamps and was excited to hear your thoughts as I was having a hard time figuring out which I would prefer and well, it seemed you guys were pretty split down the middle too! The vote came back with a 50/50 tie!! Who would have thought?! lol SO, I went ahead and ultimately chose the 2 Light Wooden Floor Lamp for the corner of my office. With two adjustable heads I felt this piece might be a bit more practical. Plus, it adds a bit of height to the corner of my room.
The next vote, was for a new overhead fixture. When James and I were selecting light fixtures for our home we left the fixture in the office and the spare room pretty basic, figuring we’d select something a bit more decorative down the road. Then as time has gone on, I just never got around to replacing this light! (Although it’s been on my ‘to-do’ list for SO long!) I wanted a modern pendant with clean lines that would make a bit of a statement but not overwhelm this tiny room. I also needed a fixture that would give off a lot of light - no single light pendant would do for this space, I needed a 3 light fixture for ample overhead lighting. Tip: unless you have lots of task lighting, it’s best in an office to select a fixture that has at least two bulbs so you have lots of overhead light!
The vote was between theCANVAS Zara 3 Light Pendant and the CANVAS Lyndon Ceiling Pendant and while I love them both, I did secretly hope that the Zara Ppendant would win and luckily for me, it did! While I used this pendant in my home office I actually think that this versatile pendant would work well in a bedroom, in a dining room or even as oversized island pendants - I’m obsessed with this light! (Just scroll through some of the photos below to see why!)
While I did ask for a bit of help narrowing down the lighting, the plan all began by choosing the main pieces for the room - the desk and storage unit.
My home office is a very small space so I decided to pare down the room a bit from how it was before. As work only gets busier and busier I am realizing more what is important in this room and also, what is not. So, out went the larger desk that took up more space than required and in came a desk that is PERFECT for this room - more on that below…. . I also got rid of the taller bookshelves that offered lots of display for pretty pieces but, ultimately didn’t serve as enough practical storage. In their place, I selected the CANVAS Copenhagen TV Stand. Yup, you read that right - TV stand.
When you’re looking for furniture, don’t be afraid to use a piece for something other than it’s intended use. I saw this media stand and immediately knew I needed it for my office! (It would also make a great dining room storage unit too!) The two open cubbies are perfect for storage baskets like the CANVAS grey Felt Baskets in grey shown below from Canadian Tire but it’s the closed storage cabinets that make this piece a winner in my books! For samples I access all the time, this piece is SO convenient.
Now truthfully, down the road I have other plans for what will go on the wall above my storage unit but for now I wanted to add something new to the room that would be super affordable (this wall cost me NOTHING you guys!) and also non-permanent because I like to change things up all the time. I just tore out a few images from magazines I already had and used washi tape I already had and created a little DIY gallery wall of inspiration images that I can change out whenever I like! This is a fun little DIY that’s great for now but will be easy to remove with no damage to the walls once I decide I’m ready to change it out. I call that a WIN!
The desk I chose for the space is the CANVAS Copenhagen Desk and I am IN LOVE! I’ve been so happy that a few of you have messaged me saying you’ve picked up this desk too! It’s the perfect size for my smaller space and I love the Scandinavian vibe of the piece. I’m usually not the biggest fan of having multiple pieces from the same collection in one room but the CANVAS Copenhagen collection was pretty much made for this room and I love how the desk and media unit work together in this space so perfectly!
The smaller scale of the piece means there’s lots of room for storage in the rest of the space but the desk still has storage with two drawers perfect for hiding away all of my messy office supplies (papers, pens, etc.).
The final stage of the room refresh comes together with a few of the little accents and accessories I’ve added. A few pieces I picked up were these wall hooks so that I can hang my little Herman sign and wall hangings, this woven basket because I think every room needs a basket with a blanket in it (!) and then of course this cozy cable knit throw. I also picked up this modern cushion that I keep handy for my full work from home days when I need a little extra comfort!
Overall I am THRILLED with how this space has turned out! With this new configuration and more functional pieces my office has become a more functional space for me to work in. Plus, I don’t know about you but for me, when I’m happier with how a space looks and feels, I want to spend more time in that space. I now spend WAY more time in my office and feel far more organized. By paring back and focussing on the essentials the room feels larger, brighter and more open which I love!
What do you think of my CANVAS Room Refresh? If you had to refresh a room in your house, which would you choose?
