In Living Colour - 2014 Trends
Let's talk about pink baby, Let's talk about blue and green. Let's talk about all the painting and decorating that may be. Now that salt-n-pepa is looping in your head, it's time to get serious.
Every year the lovely people at Benjamin Moore curate this delicious list of the most coveted colours for the upcoming year. 2014 is the year of the "New Neutrals", a refreshingly smooth palette of pastels and soft deep hues. This palette is a fresh, fun take on your everyday neutrals and can easily be incorporated into existing colour schemes.
If you're looking to spice things up in your home, below are some of my favourites that emulate the upcoming trends.
Let's start off with these quirky prints by Michael Wolk - Recreations of forgotten family photos inspired by American Modernist style. Get the full story at Crate and Barrel. I love the grouping of these four photos and how they capture the muted greens, lilac, earthy browns, and fresh air blues of the 2014 palette.
For those who like something a bit more muted - wickham gray is a gorgeous neutral added to the list this year. This easy trifecta of greys and browns is a fool proof scheme to which pops of your favourite colour could be added via art, throw pillows, lamps etc. Below is an example of this palette in action; a funky-fab (and affordable) rug from Urban Barn. Pair this with your staple brown leather sofa for a fresh new look!
This same rug could also be a great choice for those more brave at heart, and of course all of the girly girls in my life! Fruit Shake, the more muted of the pinks on the list this year, is a soft feminine color that pairs great with soft grey-greens and off whites. If you're looking for some drama in your life, contrast pink with always elegant black satin. To avoid making strawberry shake look more like dusty rose, stay away from pairing with the blue-grey spectrum. Anyone who was around in the 90's will understand why.
Lastly, decor and style are so individual, and we believe it should be FUN! Let your amazing personality show through in your style, and your house will always feel more like a home.
Ciao for now!
