Design Crush: Poppy Barley Southgate
Last week one of my favourite brands, Poppy Barley, opened it's doors in Southgate. It was quite the celebration for this local Edmonton company who has gained a loyal following not only for their incredible products but the values behind their brand too. Guys I could go on and on about all of the reasons why I love Poppy Barley and really, over the past few years I've touched on quite a few of them but the designer in me had to highlight their beautiful new space! (I mean hello! so gorgeous!)
For a brand who places so much emphasis and craftsmanship with their own products, I had pretty high expectations for their space and it did not disappoint. Poppy Barley has strong values rooted in placing importance on hand crafted, high quality goods made by people who are pros at what they do and they've brought that philosophy into their physical space in a way that's pretty much perfect. Working with Calgary designer Sarah Ward Interiors, Kendall (PB co-owner) and the rest of the PB team worked together to create a space that reflects the Poppy Barley brand just beautifully.
My favourite elements of this space are the ones that tell the brand story and the pieces that have a local tie to Edmonton; every space in this store tells a story. From their sustainability goals as a brand, their wall of leather swatches (to be rotated seasonally) and the gallery showcasing the PB team & artisans both here in Canada and in Mexico, you can really get a sense of what Poppy Barley is all about: Quality, craftsmanship + the highest quality footwear and accessories we've all come to know and love Poppy Barley for!
Probably my favourite part of this space is the mural that greets you right when you walk through the doors. Illustrated by Poppy Barley's own graphic designer Vanessa, this custom mural shows the street on Leon where PB shoes are made! How cool is that?! Other local touches include their clustered display tables made by Edmonton's own Oliver Apt, a STUNNER of a till/desk tiled with River City Tile and these gorgeous caramel leather daybeds from Article (a fave of mine!).
So while I happily strut my stuff in my Poppy Barley's almost every day (like actually though, if you're on your feet all day like I am, you don't have time for sore feet!), today I'm paying homage to their new shop and sending the most heartfelt congratulations to Kendall, Justine and the whole Poppy Barley team!! XO
What do you love most about this space? Let me know in the comments below!
PS thanks Poppy Barley for letting me use these beautiful photos taken by the lovely and talented Jillian Schecher! xo
